Starting April 1, 2024, new parking restriction schedules came into effect in VSP. These changes affect when and where residents can park on certain streets during the spring, summer, and fall months—specifically from April 1 to December 1 each year.
The most noticeable change: parking bans have increased from one hour to two hours. Some restriction days and time slots have also been modified. The goal, according to borough officials, is to give crews more time and flexibility to maintain streets and public spaces.
What Prompted the Changes?
These updates follow a reworking of the mechanical sweeper routes, which had become outdated due to years of changes in street layouts, new traffic calming measures, and other infrastructure updates. The borough says the new system is better aligned with current street configurations.
The longer restriction periods are meant to allow for more thorough cleaning, along with other routine maintenance like tree inspections and minor repairs. In practice, this means crews can finish their work without needing multiple visits or facing parked cars that block access.
What It Means for Residents
While the extended parking bans might require residents to adjust their routines, the intended outcome is clearer streets and fewer service delays. That said, it’s important that these new schedules remain practical and fairly enforced.
Residents are encouraged to check street signs regularly and stay updated on any changes through borough communications. Following the new rules will help avoid tickets—and ideally, contribute to better upkeep of local streets.
At the end of the day, smoother operations benefit everyone, but it’s equally important that the system works with residents, not just around them.
