Concerns mount over alleged voyeurism at Jarry Park pool

Montreal’s Jarry Park pool has become the focus of growing concern after several incidents of suspected voyeurism surfaced in recent weeks, prompting action from local authorities and raising public alarm about safety in one of the city’s most popular green spaces.

Officials from the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension confirmed that three formal complaints were filed on June 26 regarding individuals allegedly photographing women at the pool without consent. Prior to that date, no official reports had been logged, though recent online posts suggest the issue may have been ongoing.

According to discussions on local social media platforms, a group of men has reportedly been gathering around the pool area, watching and secretly filming women as they swim and sunbathe. The disturbing nature of the posts quickly gained traction, with many Montrealers expressing frustration and concern.

In response, Montreal police have increased their patrols in and around the park. Officers from the local station are now conducting more frequent foot and bicycle patrols, with particular attention given to the pool area.

The developments have reinforced what many park-goers have been sensing for some time—an unease around certain parts of the park, particularly near the pool. Several women who use the park for recreation say they have started avoiding the area altogether, opting instead for spaces where they feel less exposed.

The allegations have sparked broader conversations about the need for improved oversight and security in Montreal’s public recreational areas. Community members are calling for clear signage discouraging inappropriate behavior, improved surveillance, and more visible staff presence at public facilities during the busy summer season.

While no arrests have been made, borough officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious conduct. Authorities stress that everyone has a right to feel safe in public spaces, especially as temperatures rise and more people seek relief in the city’s pools and parks.

The borough has not released further details about the individuals involved in the complaints, but they confirm the matter is under active review.
