COVID-19 refers to the disease caused by a new kind of coronavirus. Coronavirus is a family of viruses that can affect animals and humans. The family of viruses causes respiratory illnesses.
The new kind of coronavirus was first found in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
The global numbers
As of today there are 4,534,731 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 307,537 deaths, confirmed by the Who Health Organization.
The latest in Quebec
Quebec confirms 737 new cases, bringing the total number of people infected in the province to 42,920.
The province confirmed 79 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 3,562 since the crisis started. Montreal’s death toll is at 2,276.
The number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased by 3 since yesterday, leading to a total of 1,766 for the province. Four new patients were admitted to intensive care. The number of people receiving intensive care stands at 183.
Half of Quebec’s cases are due to the virus’s spread in metropolitan regions. Montreal has 21,717 confirmed cases as of today.
Cases in the neighbourhood
Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough has 1,536 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of today.
Sante Montreal confirmed that 98 people have died in the borough because of the disease. That’s 3 new deaths since yesterday.
