Montreal retail stores to re-open next week

Here are the main updates from today’s press briefing on the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.

Officials confirmed 34 new deaths in Quebec. That’s the lowest daily increase in COVID-19 deaths since April 12. Quebec has had a total of 3,596 deaths since the emergency began.

707 new COVID-19 cases are confirmed. There are a total of 43,627 cases in Quebec.

Retail businesses with direct entrance will reopen May 25 in Greater Montreal. Shops without direct entrances, like stores in shopping malls, will stay closed.

Daycare centers will open June 1 in Greater Montreal.

Daycare capacity will be reduced by half to maintain social distancing. Therefore some parents may not find spots in daycare centers for their children.

Quebec hospitals will gradually increase elective surgeries that were put on pause due to the pandemic.
