COVID-19 Update for Saturday, May 16

COVID-19 refers to the disease caused by a new kind of coronavirus. Coronavirus is a family of viruses that can affect animals and humans. The family of viruses causes respiratory illnesses.

The new kind of coronavirus was first found in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

The global numbers

As of today there are 4,434,653 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 302,169 deaths, reported to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The latest in Quebec

Quebec confirms 763 new cases since the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected in the province to 42,183.

The province confirmed 82 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 3,483 since the crisis started.

The number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 decreased by 59, leading to a total of 1,763 for the province. The number of patients in intensive care stands at 179.

Half of Quebec’s cases are due to the virus’s spread in metropolitan regions. Montreal has 21,410 confirmed cases as of today.

Cases in the neighbourhood

Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension has 1,520 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of today.

95 people have died in the territory because of the disease. That’s 4 new deaths in the neighbourhood since yesterday.
