Subsidies Available for Purchase of Reusable Diapers and Sustainable Feminine Hygiene Products

The Borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension announced the renewal of its subsidies program for the purchase of reusable diapers and sustainable feminine hygiene products for the year 2023/2024. This initiative aims to promote environmentally friendly choices and support the transition to a more sustainable future.

As part of the program, a generous financial contribution of $25,000 has been allocated to the community organization, Espace-Famille Villeray. The subsidy program will be administered by this partner, ensuring the funds are utilized efficiently to benefit the community.

The Borough recognizes the importance of welcoming newborns in an ecologically responsible manner. For parents with children under 36 months, opting for reusable diapers can be a cost-effective and environmentally conscious decision. To encourage this choice, the Borough, in collaboration with Espace-Famille Villeray, is offering a reimbursement of 75% on eligible purchases*, up to a maximum of $150. This reimbursement covers various items, including reusable wipes, training pants, and swim diapers. A comprehensive list of approved products can be found on their website.

To assist parents who may have concerns or questions about using reusable diapers, Espace-Famille Villeray will be conducting informative sessions throughout the year. These sessions aim to demystify the process and provide guidance on making the most of reusable diapers.

The subsidies will be available starting from June 12, 2023, until May 24, 2024, or until the allocated funds for the program have been fully disbursed. It is recommended that interested individuals review the eligibility criteria and submit their applications online to secure their subsidy.

In addition to supporting reusable diapers, the Borough is also committed to helping individuals transition to sustainable feminine hygiene products. For those looking to eliminate the use of disposable feminine hygiene products, the subsidies program offers a reimbursement of 75% on eligible purchases, with a maximum amount of $75. This reimbursement covers a wide range of products, including reusable sanitary pads, underwear, menstrual cups, sponges, and even reusable menstrual swimwear. Each household is eligible to submit one application per 2-year period.

Similar to the subsidies for reusable diapers, the grants for sustainable feminine hygiene products will be available from June 12, 2023, until May 24, 2024, or until the funds are fully utilized.

The Borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension is excited to support its residents in making environmentally conscious choices and embracing a more sustainable lifestyle. By promoting the use of reusable diapers and sustainable feminine hygiene products, the Borough aims to reduce waste and encourage the community’s participation in ecological initiatives.

* Rental options for reusable diapers and wipes are also accepted under this program.
