COVID-19 Update for Sunday, May 3

COVID-19 refers to the disease caused by a new kind of coronavirus. Coronavirus is a family of viruses that can affect animals and humans. The family of viruses causes respiratory illnesses.
The new kind of coronavirus was found in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
The global numbers
COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in over two hundred countries across the world. The death toll has crossed 200,000.
As of today there are 3,356,205 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 238,730 deaths, reported to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Cases in the neighbourhood
1,139 COVID-19 are confirmed in the Villeray-St Michel-Parc Extension neighbourhood, as per Santé Montreal’s latest update. This is an increase of 92 cases since yesterday.
In Villeray-St Michel-Parc Extension, 67 people have died due to COVID-19.
In the Montreal region, there are 16,251 confirmed cases including 1,365 deaths.
The government has confirmed 31,865 cases in the Quebec province.
Mobile testing clinic open in the borough
Friday, CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île announced two testing clinics will open in the Saint-Michel and Rivière-des-Prairies neighbourhoods.
Testing is free and accessible to anyone regardless of immigration status or health insurance coverage. Eligible residents of the borough include those without the provincial health insurance plan, those without a health insurance card, and those whose cards are expired.
On Sunday, a clinic was set up in Saint-Michel at Joseph-Francois-Perreault High school. The clinic will open again on Monday. No appointment is needed to come get tested.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, a mobile site will be set up at the Rene-Goupil Recreation Centre.
Anyone who has symptoms including coughing, fever, sudden loss of taste or smell and trouble breathing and lives in the borough Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension can book at an appointment.
